-48 F recorded at Fairbanks AK, 14 Jan 2012

The temperature last night dropped down to -48 F at Fairbanks, the coldest temperature of the winter so far. This very cold air is associated with unusually high surface pressure. The highest sea-level pressure reported from Alaska this morning may be the 1058.7 hPa reported at Fort Greely about 70 miles SE of Fairbanks.
