The low temperature on 5 January 2012 at McGrath of -45 F followed a five day period from 31 Dec 2011 – 4 Jan 2012 with low temperatures at or below -50 F. During this period the temperature averaged -38 degrees F below normal with a mean temperature of -45 F! Minimum temperatures were -51, -53, -50, -53, and -55 F over those 5 days. The warmest high temperature over the five days was -33 F. The record low over this 5 day period is -60 F reported back on 3 and 4 January 1975 while the record high is +43 F reported on 1 Jan 1988, giving a range of 103 degrees F experienced historically over this 5 day period.
