Both hot and cold in southern California today

It was an unusual day in the San Diego WFO forecast area as both high temperature records along the coast and low temperature records inland were set on the same day. This situation developed as high pressure pushed into the interior Southwest from the north.  The 42 degrees at Thermal (south of Palm Springs) came just 1 degree from tying the record coldest temperature for May.
