Ice Box Idaho at the end of April 2011

The ice box that is Idaho continues to report unusually cold and snowy weather. Snowfall was widespread across southern Idaho and southeast Oregon last night.

Stanley ID has recorded a low temperature below 10 F on 9 of the past 11 days with 5 F recorded this morning (29 April 2011).  The coldest so late in the season had been 8 F in 1922 and 1982 until today’s 5 F came along in 2011.

POCATELLO HAS SO FAR NOT SEEN 70 DEGREE TEMPERATURES FOR 195 CONSECUTIVE DAYS. THIS IS THE 5th LONGEST STRETCH SINCE RECORD KEEPING BEGAN 72 YEARS AGO IN 1939.

A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 5 DEGREES WAS SET AT STANLEY ID THIS
MORNING. THIS SHATTERS THE OLD RECORD OF 14 SET IN 1982. THIS IS THE
SIXTH RECORD LOW THIS MONTH AT STANLEY AND THE THIRD RECORD LOW OVER
THE PAST THREE DAYS.
A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 17 DEGREES WAS SET AT IDAHO FALLS THIS
MORNING. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 22 SET IN 1950.
A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 16 DEGREES WAS SET AT CHALLIS THIS
MORNING. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 19 SET IN 1940.
