Nome and Valdez AK report record snowfalls

Nome received its biggest April snow day on record while Valdez was blanketed with 27.8 inches of snow yesterday.

THE LATE WINTER STORM THAT STRUCK THE GOLDRUSH CITY ON THURSDAY SET
TWO SEPARATE RECORDS. FIRST OFF, THE 6.7 INCHES OF SNOW THAT FELL
BEAT THE OLD RECORD OF 5.4 INCHES SET BACK IN 1945. BUT WAIT, THERE’S
MORE; THAT SAME 6.7 INCHES BESTED THE 6.3 INCHES THAT FELL ON APRIL
21,1961 MAKING THIS THE BIGGEST SNOW DAY EVER IN APRIL AND THAT GOES
BACK 105 YEARS.

ON THURSDAY APRIL 7TH…27.8″ OF SNOW FELL FOR THE DAY IN VALDEZ
WHICH BLOWS AWAY THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 2″ SET BACK IN BOTH 1988 AND
2001. SEVERAL MORE INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED BEFORE THE DAY IS OVER.
1.28 INCHES OF WATER EQUIVALENT OR PRECIPITATION FELL IN VALDEZ ON
APRIL 7TH WHICH ALSO SMASHES THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 0.35″ SET BACK IN
1973.
